SLIT is most commonly used to treat environmental allergies including allergies to pollen, dogs, cats, other animals, dust, and mold.

The first step is to schedule an evaluation to see if you may benefit from sublingual immunotherapy. If you qualify, I will order blood testing to see what you are allergic to. If you have had IgE allergy testing performed in the last year we can use those test results. After that I will send a custom prescription into a compounding pharmacy that specializes in SLIT drops and they will ship the drops directly to you.

SLIT is very safe. Unlike allergy shots which must be given in a doctor’s office, SLIT drops can be safely taken at home. You will be provided with a prescription for an epi-pen out of an abundance of caution. The World Health Organization (WHO) has endorsed sublingual immunotherapy as a viable alternative to injection immunotherapy.

Many published scientific studies have demonstrated that SLIT significantly reduces allergy symptoms. It may also help reduce asthma and eczema symptoms which are often caused or exacerbated by underlying allergies.

Most insurance plans do not cover sublingual immunotherapy drops, as SLIT is considered to be an "off-label" use by the FDA. The appointments with your doctor and the allergy testing portion of the process are often covered however. Check with your insurance company to see if they cover blood allergy testing.
