About Dr. Jade Stefano
I am a Naturopathic Physician licensed in Washington state, where I completed my medical education at Bastyr University. I am currently earning a certification in Psychedelic Psychotherapy from the Integrative Psychiatry Institute. I completed my undergraduate education in biology at Reed College in Portland Oregon where my love for science, nature, philosophy blossomed. My clinical interests include cannabis medicine, ketamine psychotherapy (KAP), psychedelic medicine, integrative psychiatry, environmental medicine, allergy treatment, pain management, cardiovascular wellness and functional medicine. Modalities I use include nutraceuticals, botanical medicine, nutrition, lifestyle coaching, counseling, Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) and pharmaceutical interventions when needed.
Cannabis has been a decades long passion having been involved in medical cannabis as a patient and a caregiver since its inception in WA. Its healing properties continue to amaze me, as long overdue research is finally elucidating its secrets and verifying what traditional healers have known for millennia. When adult use cannabis was legalized in Washington state, I co-founded Puffin Farm, a regenerative organic cannabis farm and processor specializing in minimally processed, high terpene content cannabis and extracts. I am a sought after speaker and teacher on cannabis medicine and sustainable farming practices at conferences and events. Some of the things that I educate about include terpenes and the entourage effect, product safety and testing, product selection and dosing, cannabis phytoconstituents, medicinal actions and uses, CBD/THC ratios, the endocannabinoid system, the environmental impact of indoor factory cannabis farming and benefits of regenerative agriculture.
Cooking and food have been a lifelong passion and I enjoy working with clients on achievable and enjoyable dietary modifications to address inflammation, cardiovascular disease and general wellness using mediterranean and plant based diets. I am a regenerative farmer and believe that the interconnectedness between the earth and its inhabitants is key to optimal health and healing. I am a Climate-Aware Therapist and a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance, a group of holistic mental health providers committed to working with clients on the cognitive, intrapersonal, societal, and existential repercussions surrounding climate related distress. In my free time I enjoy gardening, backyard chickens, our pet axolotls and spending time with my children.
I was drawn to natural medicine after becoming frustrated by the doctor directed, paternalistic approach of conventional medicine, where people are not listened to, their concerns dismissed and where they are often pushed into a rushed cycle of polypharmacy symptom management where they are never truly healed and where the root causes of their conditions are ignored. I will never forget the day I learned that 40% of conventional medical treatments are not evidence based. This includes some invasive cardiac surgeries and other aggressive treatments. I also remember the dejected feeling I experienced, prior to becoming a doctor myself, while at a doctor’s appointment, and asking some well informed questions, when the doctor said that I should not listen to “doctor google,” essentially dismissing my ability to do my own research, and assuming I was looking at dubious information. While there are many excellent doctors who possess a deep knowledge of their specialties and while google is rife with bad information, I believe that people are intelligent, know themselves and encourage clients to be active participants in their wellness and healing. People should do as much research as possible about their condition, ask questions of the doctors and seek second and third opinions, always for serious conditions or for issues where you feel that the doctor did not address your concerns or discover the root cause of your problem.
